dave_gurtcheff1
I use DXO Optics pro to convert RAW and correct lens faults. DXO needs to know focusing distance to make it's corrections. I've been "guessing" the distance. Is this info available in the camera data for each exposure? I can't find it anywhere! Thanks in advanceDave
jnicholson
No, not that I'm aware of. It will tell you what lens was used and, if the lens was a zoom, the zoom position. But, unfortunately, no focus distance.
caesar
The answer is, it depends on the body. http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00F5eG&tag= I find it odd for newer models not to report this, since E-TTL II bodies/flashes will use distance information (if the lens reports it) for flash calculations, so the bodies (with appropriate lenses) should have this information available, but appearantly Canon decided not to export this data. There are some reasonably inexpensive laser rangefinders out there...

jespdj
The answer is also: it depends on the lens! Some lenses do report distance data, some don't.
Here is a list: Canon EF lenses with distance data for E-TTL II
mark u
Actually, Chuck Westfall did post recently on Robgalbraith that a request had been made to Canon Japan to enable recording of distance information via new versions of firmware for more recent bodies. Keep an eye on firmware updates.
brian ball
From what I can tell, it seems to depend on the software reading the EXIF data. For whatever reason, I don't see it show up on Photoshop/Bridge, but I can see it with a free app called EXIF viewer on my Mac.
