rich_dutchman1
Any good locations in Southeast Maine for Moose, or are they mostly inthe north? I'm traveling to Boston soon, and I'd like to take a driveup there.
jeffpolaski
Most of the moose we ever saw in our trips to Maine we actually saw in New Hampshire.
clarke_ross
I don't think that Moose are all that common in southern Maine. Baxter State Park in northern Maine is the most common location for Moose photography. My guess is that the closest Moose area to Boston is Northern New Hampshire. Route US3 is good for about 10 miles just south of the Canadian border. Also parts of NH Route 3 between Errol and the Maine border can be good, especially about dusk. clarke_ross
The Route between Errol and the Maine border should be NH Route 16, not NH 3.
jeff nadler
oddly, there are moose crossing sign on the highway between Boston and the NH border. There may eb one or 2 that wander south ocassionally. But to really be sure of seeing moose, ya need to go here . . . Rangeley lakes, Moosehead lake, or Baxter State park, maine Upper Ct. lakes, NH
david_deratzian
Moose are very hard to find once the weather gets warm. They spend a lot of time seeking out shade, which means deep in the woods.
rscott
If you head North to Pittsburg, New Hampshire, I'll guarantee you'll see plenty of moose.
charles_sullivan
Though not in the South or Southeast region of the state, the Rangely Lakes region is an excellent and reliable place to see and to photograph Moose. I have often seen Moose tracks in the area of Wilton but yet to see an actual Moose there.
