10-17 fisheye

Recommended Posts

I have not used the Pentax DA10-17 yet but several folks on the DPReview.com Pentax SLR

forum and on the PDML mailing list have this lens, so you might want to go hunt those

sources. (A fish-eye zoom is simply not particularly interesting to me, that's why I haven't

used one yet. I'm much more inclined to the DA12-24, although I'm happy with the DA14 I

already own.)

Using the DA10-17 is certainly possible on a Canon EOS 20D body, although somewhat of

a bother. You need a mount adapter (available from CameraQuest.com and other sources).

The auto-iris mechanism will not function, you'll focus and expose with the aperture

stopped down to taking aperture. The DA series Pentax lenses have no aperture ring so

the lens will operate ONLY at minimum aperture. The Canon 20D will provide manual and

aperture priority AE metering with this lens, and of course will not drive the focus

mechanism either. On some Pentax lenses mated to EOS bodies, you need to remove the

aperture actuation lever as there is a clearance problem.

With all those issues, and the fact that this is somewhat of a specialist lens anyway, you'd

be better off buying the lens and a Pentax *ist DL body (only about $400 these days!) so

you can use the lens to its full capablities.

I am using the Tokina 10-17 fish on a F mount and I love this lense! It does fall of on sharpness near the edges but I am more than willing to live with that considering the price I paid for it.when u search type tokina not pentax and ur results are far greater i'm sure u will see.
