peter_ehrenpreis
Has anyone used the 4 new (downloadable) Picture Styles from Canon? http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/picturestyle/shooting/file/index.html NostalgiaClearTwilightEmerald These are in addition to the 6 types of Picture Styles (Standard, Portrait, Landscape, Neutral, Faithful, and Monochrome) that are built into a camera body. andrew robertson
Reminds me of the bar code system for the Elan.
v.anisimov
I like it a lot. Particularly the Nostalgia style. Best part it's working with my 20D files and DPP 2.1! Despite the fact Canon has only listed 1dsmk2, 5D and 30D on the "download to software" list. Well done Canon.
PuppyDigs
"Reminds me of the bar code system for the Elan." Reminds me of the "Basic Zone" idiot modes too. However, unlike the barcode books and pic modes, Picture Styles are like PS actions, i.e., canned post-processing. Instead of aperture and shutter settings, AE comp, film advance and focus settings, Picture Styles apply levels and color tweaks. Unlike the Elan barcodes (I still have mine if anyone wants to buy it...) I actually find Picture Styles useful and, if lucky, images need little or no additional post-processing in PS. I have tried, Nostalgia, Clear, Twilight and Emerald. I'd be hard pressed to find an image they improve. I find standard, landscape and portrait the very useful. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
lancemcvay
So these can't be integrated into the program in any way, you have to go browse for them each time? That sucks.
PuppyDigs
Yeah, I felt the same way utill I tried Nostalgia, Clear, Twilight & Emerald and realized I'll probably never use them again! Not much suction after all. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
digitmstr
>>So these can't be integrated into the program in any way, you have to go browse for them each time? That sucks<< I agree. Canon should do it so they become available within the Picture Style selection screen in DPP. Otherwise it's pretty lame! As more of these become available (especially for those who want to emulate certain Fuji emulsions) it would make much more sense to be able and pick them ALL from one list as opposed to have to browse for them. digitmstr
>>Not much suction after all.<< So, what you're saying is that one sucking is out of phase with the other sucking thereby annulling sucking altogether? ;)
eric_lawson1
I could be wrong about this but I could swear I read these things could be downloaded to the camera for use that way "and they would stick". Possibly only one at a time though. Anybody else heard of this angle on it?
v.anisimov
"...have to go browse for them each time..." Actually, DPP remembers the location of your style files next time you click 'browse'
