Original Spyder, No Software

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

My teacher has the original Pantone ColorVision Spyder unit. He has lost the

software disc. Is there any place I can get the software, without having to pay

for a new Spyder2 or Spyder3Elite?

----

Secondly, if I can only calibrate using a new Calibration device [aka, Software

/ Drivers are not available alone], what would be the best choice for this setup:

Camera - One D300

Camera - One D80

Scanner - One Coolscan V ED

Monitor - One Dell 2407WFP monitor

Monitor - One Dell M1530 laptop [unfortunately, glossy screen]

Printer - One Epson R2400 [i use Epson Premium Semi-Gloss]

I know the D300 can use custom Picture Control settings, while the D80 is

limited to sRGB, sRGB II and Adobe RGB. The 2407WFP is a beauty, where as the

M1530 screen is reprehensibly glossy.

Is there away I can get these six devices running on a single color space?

Especially for my scanned slides: if I hold a slide up against the light of my

monitor, and compare it side by side with the scanned image, the reds, yellows

and oranges are too pale, even curves adjustment won't get the pictures to pop.

Thanks,

Charles

Hmm, since my teacher lost the disc along with the serial his product is registered to, is there a way I can find it? Is it printed on the device anywhere? Can I purchase another serial online? Can I use a serial from someone here on photo.net?

There's one serial code printed on the end of the USB cable which is permanently attached to the Spyder, but I doubt that's for the software.

A bit of a late response.

But on the Spyder 2 the keys are on the CDs, so if you lost them you might be out of luck.

But its worth sending an e-mail to Pantone and explain the situation, they might be nice enough to give you a new serial as it's a legacy product.

Asking for the serial from someone here would be breach of copyright though.

Well, I got the serial from my teacher. It worked great on my 2407WFP, yet the glossy screen of my M1530 looks awful -- a VERY noticeable purple cast. Under the "Luminance" dialog on the M1530, the boxes are blank. On the 2407WFP, however, they have "Black : 19.45" and "White : 963.8". What have I done wrong? I'm turning off calibration on the M1530 because it's made everything look terrible.

Also, am I to keep the Color Space in Photoshop at sRGB, or change it to the custom profile that I assigned from OptiCAL?
