design8r
Yesterday i bought this lens and compared to other Canon EF lenses i use, the mounting seems to me a bit tight, i dont have to force it but it does need extra effort. It doesnt 'slide' like the other lenses. Anyone else experiencing this with canon EF lenses or the EOS 350D? Is it something i should worry about or is it normal? thank you
jcolwell
Don't worry about it. The tight fit is not a bad thing; I wish more of my EF lenses had it. Anyway, it is probably offset by the wobble in the front element group (BTW, don't worry about the wobble in the front element group).
PuppyDigs
Tight is good. They get looser with use as mount abrasion takes it toll. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
burachan40
I have seen a report from a Canon user who had a burr in the channel of the lens mount that was causing similar symptoms. This is a solo report and I doubt this is anywhere near a common thing. I can say my 35mm/f2 was and is still the tightest mounting lens I have. The 17-40 fits with what I would call the perfectly smooth fitting. My 50mm/f1.8 fits like the piece of plastic that it is. My Bigma is a little sloppy, especially noticable when mounted on a mono or tripod as the camera body 'clicks' around the lens mount as if you where mounting or dismounting the lens. So have a good look at your lens mount on the 50mm and ensure there are no burrs causing trouble. I would also take a good gander at the lens mount of your body is smooth and to ensure the electrical contacts for the lens are good to go.
