sl attanapola
Anybody heard of this before?I have seen one - I did not know that Practika did autofocus lenses!
john_shaeffer1
Put this in your browser: http://www.praktica-collector.de/Pentacon_Prakticar_AF_55_200.htm Looks like the lens was made in Japan for Praktica by Sigma. I'm thinking this was made for the Praktica B mount cameras. Notice the batteries that fit inside the lens--wonder how fast it focused?
dan_fromm1
Interesting. Makes me think of the Vivitar Self Contained Auto Focus lenses. Would anyone know whether this is a SCAF lens or whether its AF is controlled by the camera body?
davepearman
Interesting. Makes me think of the Vivitar Self Contained Auto Focus lenses.

Yes - there were several examples of this "technology"... Vivitar made a 75-200mm zoom and a 200mm f/3.5 Series 1 telephoto, and possibly others. Sigma made this 55-200mm zoom in most popular fittings.

Would anyone know whether this is a SCAF lens or whether its AF is controlled by the camera body?

The AF system in the lens is completely self contained. However, as the Praktica B cameras use electronic meter coupling, this allows the lens to be activated by pressing the shutter release slightly. On other cameras you needed to press a button on the lens instead.
