jburn
Hi I have used my Nikon D70 for a couple of years, with no problems. When theD200 came out I decided move up to it. I planed to keep the D70 as a backupcamera, or maybe some day, give it to one of my daughters. Last month I got theD70 out to check it out and to use it for some shots around the house. When Iturned it on the display came up with some strange information. Do not remembernow just what was there. After pushing the reset button and removing the batterya couple of times, the camera seamed to be OK. Yesterday I got the D70 out againto use it and now it does not even power up. I recharged the battery, put in adifferent memory card, with no luck. The only thing that happens, when I put inthe memory card, is the green LED on the back blinks, with the on/off switch ineither position. Nothing else works. The camera is just dead, except for theblinking green LED. I tried the reset button, but no luck. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I guess I will need to send it in forrepairs, but am concerned about how much that will cost. Thanks for your replies. Jack
deli
Hello, Sounds like the old "blinking green light of death" (bglod).Nikon fixes it for free. I got mine done earlier this year. They do it pretty fast too. Follow the link in the following FAQ: http://www.anands.net/faq/gblod.html
alan_olander1664878205
It sounds like the "Blinking Green Light of Death", a known problem with the D70. Nikon has been repairing these cameras for free even if out of warranty.
Michael R Freeman
"Has anyone else had a similar problem?" Thousands. Sounds like you have the BGLOD - aka Blinking Green Light Of Death. Do a quick photo.net search for "BGLOD" - there is a Nikon service bulletin out for this. The repair is supposed to be free, even for cameras out of warranty. mtk
Hi Jack, just to let you know I just got my D70 back from Nikon. I was extremely pleased with the service. I bought mine used from KEH with no original warranty registration. Go to the Nikon website, and download the form and UPS it off....It took two weeks to the day from when I shipped it to when I recieved it back. The blinking light was gone, they installed the latest firmware version (2.0), cleaned the CCD sensor as well as the rest of the camera, all free of charge. This was no hassle other than not having my camera for two weeks. D70 works like a dream! Mark
michael s.
Too frequent an occurrence for Nikon not to have handled it more adroitly, in my opinion. It is, after all, a known defect.
