I have read here:

The 70-200 f2.8L zoom is not as sharp at the corners than the 75-300 IS at 75-170mm? Can this be true? Look at the conclusion at the end of the article to see what I mean.

I am in the process of buying a 70-200 f4L, after selling my 75-300 IS, as the 75-300 IS was not sharp enough for me.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I bought the EF70-200 4L USM last Fall because I was disappointed with the

performance of the EF75-300 4.0-5.6 IS USM (I still own them both). The IS

feature if the 75-300 is wonderful, but it's a real bow-wow in all other ways

compared to the 70-200. The build quality, ergonomics, AF speed, feel and

optical quality of the 70-200 tower over the 75-300.

I wrote a review of the EF70-200 4L USM if you're interested:

I'm not even going to read what was written at this site. Assuming

there is a statement to the effect that the 75-300 is actually better

at any point than the 70-200/2.8L, I will state without equivacation

that there is a short between the brain and the keyboard of the

poster. That is total BS!!!

I use my 70-200/2.8L lens with a Canon 1.4x Extender a lot. It beats

the hell out of my 100-300/4.5-5.6 lens. I suppose there may be a

substandard 70-200 out there and a 75-300 that is exceptional. Even

considering this...it doesn't matter. Anyone who believes this is an

idiot.
