g_rard_morris
Hi All, Does anyone know if the Nikon D70 records the total number of shots fired, and if so how to access this information? I have recently bought a nice looking second hand model, and was wondering if it worked hard in it's previous life. Best regards, Gerard
bwcombs
Gerard, I have an application that will give you the exact shutter count on any digital camera. It is an application called "shuttercount". It's on a PC (I'm on a Mac now). I don't recall where I found it, but you might do a search for it. Worst case, post an image at photo.net. I'll run it through the application and get a count for you.
hbs
Go download IExif 2.25 from http://www.opanda.com/en/download/index.html and open your latest picture. The total number of shutter releases will be near the end of the EXIF header
rj lorenzini
There are many options. Another one is this free viewer somebody made. http://www.amarra.de/. Install it select the image, the total image count will be the last exif tag info in the list. It is not the prettiest application but it is free and easy to use. rj lorenzini
Sorry I forget the one available at www.amarra.de is free and works with NEF files. Opanda will not work with NEF's unless you have the professional licensed version.
verdellnazgul
Guys, I just tried both of those programs and though they had a lot of exif information I could not find a shutter count. Any ideas? I tried jpegs and Nefs with both. Steve
rj lorenzini
When using the one available at amarra.de you must expand the detail window all the way, when you do the total number of pictures shot will be the last entry in the window "Pictures (total)" refer to the example.<div></div>

g_rard_morris
Thanks to all of you, I found that the camera had 4862 shots fired since new, of which I had fired over 300 myself in less than a week. In other words only four months use with someone like me - or in car terms - only just run in! It's my first DSLR, bought in order to do the notebook and light meter work to reduce the number of shots fired on my ageing F4, which (to my way of thinking) gives "better" results. Slightly expensive for a lightmeter, but the savings in film will rapidly pay for that! Best regards, Gerard
