dayton_p._strickland1
Volker, on my computer screen the photos seem very, very dark. Any photos from Munich are always welcome. I lived there for five years and my wife and I talk about those days often. We really miss living there. With the Pope's visit and Oktoberfest coming up it must really be busy there. canfred
Hi Volker , I agree with Dayton the photos seem to be quite dark on my screen as well.
dan flanders
I've noticed that too, but it seems to obtain with a majority of stuff on my screen. I attributed it to my screen not being able to brighten any more, but have also wondered if the dark photos were not a fashion going about these days when nearly everyone is demanding more contrast!! john_shriver
Volker, might you be a Macintosh user? They use a gamma of 1.8, where the WWW and Windows worlds use a gamma of 2.2. Thus pictures for Mac gamma look really dark when viewed elsewhere, unless you do "save for web" in Photoshop, or equivalent.
michael s.
What keeps these from being stronger in my view is that they're a bit removed from the action. In no's 1 and 3 (especially #1) there are faces/expressions I want to see, but I really can't.
I've looked (too quickly) at your gallery and there's no question you can take photos. Some of your scenics from the Dominican Republic were especially good.
For these street shots I think I'd like to see you "in the thick of it" a little bit more. dead_metaphor
Volker- ask yourself "why" you are taking a given picture. What are you intending to convey? Once you answer that question, your pictures will begin to reflect your own eye. FWIW, I think that "constructive criticism" on sites like this only compromises YOUR vision. michael s.
<< ... FWIW, I think that "constructive criticism" on sites like this only compromises YOUR vision. ... >> Maybe so. Critics base recommendations on our own interests and biases. I'm not certain I agree that the criticism "only compromises your vision," though. Put another way, even if Dead Metaphor's assertion is correct, I'm not sure that's always a bad thing. That would depend more on what the individual photographer does in response to the criticism. In my case, I've found that some of my "compromises" have helped me take better photos -- and by "better" I mean photos that I like more. But that's just my experience. volker_meyer
Thank you very much for your comments - the pictures were taken in the evening - therefore the look quite dark with bad colours. Maybe the are better in B&W?
