leicamshooter
Wondering if anyone owns these two lenses and has compared results at F2 and F5.6? I'm wondering if the curvature of field, which is minimal in the summicron, takes a big toll on the sonnar at F2 and F5.6? What about Boke? Thanks for your replies! stephen_w.
Sonnar Opton or CV Opton?
frank_scheitrowsky1
"...wondering if the curvature of field, which is minimal in the summicron, takes a big toll on the sonnar..." Wouldn't that only be an issue if you were taking pictures of flat objects such as artwork? In real life photography, when is the distance of the subject the same at the edges of the frame as the center of the frame?
leicamshooter
I meant the old Zeiss Sonnar Opton 1.5.
furcafe
I have the rigid 50/2 Summicron (same era as the DR), used to have the DR, & still use many Carl Zeiss, Carl Zeiss Jena, & Zeiss-Opton 50/1.5 & 50/2 Sonnars. Despite the Summicron's exalted reputation, I've seen nothing indicating that it is superior to the coated Sonnars. Given this experience, the Sonnars remain my default "go to" 50mm lenses (unless I need f/1, in which case the Noctilux comes along).
