phineas_tarbolde1
What kind of flash system is commonly used with medium format in the field (e.g. wedding or outdoor portaits) -- assuming you have the flash unit(s) OFF camera on a stand? Just curious what most pros/advanced amatuers use. I take it that powerpacks combined with strobes is too cumbersome.

vcallaway
I have a couple of vivitar 285's.
Check out strobist.blogspot.com. This guy has some really good writeups on minimalist lighting. Mostly about using portable strobes off camera for location shoots. Very worth reading. johnmarkpainter
What is your camera? Q Flash with Quantum Turbo Battery pack is kind of a standard.
Ed_Ingold
I use a Q-flash, and I've seen colleagues use Norman and Lumedyne units - all battery powered. There are big inverters that will work with some monolights, but I've not seen them used.

twmeyer
Neil Turner uses what I use.. Lumedyne. Small, powerful, tough. Weak modeling light. I love them... you need to know what you're doing before you use these for a paying job. Digital's instant feedback makes it easier... t
