rhaytana__tim_adams_
Can anyone refer me to reliable figures for the cost per page in ink of printing with the Epson 2200, using Epson inks? I recently printed some 18 x 12 prints on Super B paper, and am inclined to do more ... but thought it couldn't hurt to have some notion of how much this is costing, in terms of ink. I used the stats from the Epson product information page and came up with a figure of about 50 cents per page in ink, for an 18 x 12 print, but something tells me that's wishful thinking, that it's more than that. joseph_wisniewski
Hi tim. I log my prints and my cartridge use on two Epson 2200s, a 7600, and a 4000. The 2200, based on about 120 carts, is running an average of 595.6 in2/cart. I get my carts from atlex.com, which is about the lowest you'll find, $8.90/cart. This all boils down to $0.0149 $/in2. At that price, an 8x12 runs $3.23 for ink, a little over six times your initial estimate. The estimates on teh Epson pages are for text with occasional graphics, something like 5% of the paper is covered with ink. We're dealing with photos, 100% of the paper covered with ink. rhaytana__tim_adams_
Thanks, Joseph. I missed the note about 5% coverage on the Epson site. Your figure sounds much more credible. It sounds like my total cost per page for an 18 x 12 on premium luster is just under $5.00 per page, if I buy the paper from a discount supplier. chris_chow
I did some calculations recently. I print mainly 9 x 6 and it uses up (all cartridge averaged) like 0.054 cartridge per print. So for 18 x 12, it will be four times the ink, that is about 0.21 cartridge per print. If a cartridge cost you $10, then it would cost about $2.1. Give and take 30% because of print density. jim_doty
My stats are here: http://jimdoty.com/Digital/Epson_2200/2200_ink2/2200_ink2.html I kept track of the number of prints by size and the number of cartridges by color. I have a separate printer for text documents so my 2200 is for prints only. I figure the ink for a photographic print costs a little less than 1.4 cents per square inch. rhaytana__tim_adams_
Chris and Jim, thanks to both of you. Jim, your web page is a valuable reference. I see your figure for a 12 x 18 is $4.92, so I guess I was on target when I figured a little under $5 a page for a print on a Super B. 1.4 cents per square inch is easy to remember, too, all the better. <g>
www.whitemountainphoto.com
Joe, I just recently purchased the 4000 and haven't yet figured the ink cost on that one. Do you have the numbers per inch, for the 110ml or 220ml ink carts? I'm also purchasing from Atlex. Thanks,
robert_k1
"Try this - InkRepublic's bulk ink kit: http://www.inkrepublic.com/ProductDetail.asp?item=2200 you can lower down your cost for sure." Not if they don't provide any profiles that are comparable to the Epson profiles.
brent downey
Im new here... also new to my 4000 but have had a 2200 for a few years. I never could figure out the cost of ink on the 2200 but the 4000 will tell you ink usage in ml. if you use the menu setup and print the job info page... It gives detailed usage on your last 10 prints. I pay roughly $135 Canadian for a 220 ml. cart so.... thats 61 cents per ml. Add that to the paper cost and voila... a very accurate cost estimate. Much cheaper than the 2200 ink costs. BTW. Anyone out there refilling the ink carts for the 4000? Best, Brent
