Problem With D70 LCD Screen

While shooting wildflowers yesterday the screen on my one year old D70

suddenly went white. It would no longer display the images I recorded

and the menu would not display either. Occasionally, the images would

display again; but only rarely. The images continued to be recorded on

the Smart Card, as I discovered when I looked at them on the computer

when I got home. Has anyone had experience with this problem?

Suggestions welcome. Its prime wildflower seaaon where I live and I do

not want to be without my camera. Please help.

The D70 uses CF (Compact Flash) cards, right? Not SmartMedia. Not that it matters as far as the problems you've described is concerned.

My D2H acts funky when the battery is low. It acts *really* funky when the SB-800 flash is connected and the flash batteries are low. I can't even turn the flash off while it's connected to the D2H when the flash batteries are low - I have to detach it first, then turn off the flash.

So, first thing I'd suggest is to take your D70 to a store and see if they have a charged battery in good condition to check it against yours.

Alternatively, if the D70 can be hooked up to an AC adapter, that's another way to check whether your LCD screen problem is related to the power source. Sure, the store would probably *love* to sell you an overpriced Nikon AC adapter but they might be willing to let you try it in the store.

I've never heard of this problem. It sounds like the camera needs to be checked by a Nikon-authorised repair shop. If it needs to be sent to Nikon Service that's at least a week without a camera for you. If you have to use it then use it. Just make sure that the warranty doesn't expire before you send it in. Good luck!
