dinsdale
Can anyone get this application to run, and "see" their SLR camera (in my case, a Canon 20d)? I'm having trouble getting this application to run at all, much less "see" my camera. I've seen warnings on the Canon site that this application may not work with OS X Tiger, but I can't find an application that replaces it. Capture One does this, but it't out of my price range. Does anyone have any experience with EOS Capture 1.5 for Mac OS X? Any alternative to this application for Mac OS X? Thanks!
mike sisk
I never really do remote capture, but have you tried the CameraWindow application? It has a remote capture task that works with my 1D2N on OS X 10.4.7. -Mike
david_papas
i have been reading that there is a "bug" introduced in OSX 10.4 with one of the incremenatal updates that you download, that keeps the canon capture program from opening. Supposedly Apple is going to fix this, maybe soon with the 10.4.8 updater, it is a know issue to say the least. Capture One also has some problems as far as working "tethered" with canon usb cameras which we are also hoping will be fixed soon by an Apple update. The Capture One program will import the raw images off the CF card and process them. So will Photoshop CS2. You can download a 30 day trial of capture one, maybe it will be fixed by then. I believe the "lightroom beta" will work as well.
dinsdale
Getting images on to the Mac is easy, I just want to shoot "tethered", so more people can view the image on a monitor, rather than the camera's LCD screen. I guess EOS Capture DOES have a problem running on OS X Tiger. I need a cheap alternative to Capture One. My demo has expired, and I never did get it to see my camera. Thanks! mike sisk
I did a little research on this issue. Apparently Apple made a change in the USB kernel extension that broke some things, including some of the Canon utilities. It isn't broken across the board and seems to only affect some hardware configurations.
Here's one potential fix: <a href=http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2718770"> http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2718770.
The consensus in the developer community is that Apple is right and the third-party products are not following USB guidelines. But that's subject to debate.
-Mike

andrew robertson
Try resetting the PMU and the Open Firmware. No need to pay $100.
dinsdale
Thanks, everyone. I reverted to an earlier version of Tiger, and now I have my USB connection working again. Running OS X updates breaks things just like Windows updates does!
paul_stern1
Yeah, I've had the exact same problem. I'd rather not have to revert to an earlier version of OS X. How difficult is this to do? Andrew, how would one go about resetting the PMU and Open Firmware? Thanks, Paul
andrew robertson
Resetting the pram is done by holding down Command-Option-p-r right after you turn on the computer. It should reboot afterwards. Resetting the PMU is machine dependent. You should consult your manual for instructions on that one. There's a button you push when the computer is turned off. Resetting Open Firmware involves booting into it and issuing the proper commands. There is an Apple Technote about it.
paul_stern1
Just to close out this thread. I just waited for OX 10.4.8, which fixed the bug. All works well now.

bdb
Has anyone figured this out yet? I'm on a MacBook running 10.4.9 and I can't get EOS Capture to open or recognize my camera in any way. Help!
betsy_m
I just downloaded the update from Canon and my 20D works fine now on my Mac.
david_littleboy
This page comes up every time I searched for help so figured I'd post my solution. I was able to finally open EOS Capture and get it to recognize the 20d after I upgraded EOS Capture at the Canon site, and by opening it through Canon's Digital Photo Professional program, not through EOS Viewer. david_littleboy
An update to my previous post... It worked with Digital Photo Professional version 1.1, but I saw that there was an updated version on the Canon site, so I upgraded to 3.4.1... then EOS CAPTURE WOULDN'T WORK ANYMORE! Arg, so I had to go digging through my old CDs and find the Digital Photo Professional 1.1 CD and revert back to that. Don't upgrade that program.
