karen_breen_bondie
About six months ago I started to experience a sportatic "FOR" error with my D70 camera. Initially, I thought it was the memory card, since I using a SanDisk 1 GB Ultra II CF card exclusively when it would occur. After the last time it happened, I switched to my older SanDisk 1GB CF card, and it still occurred. I surmise that the problem is not my memory cards, but the camera. I haven't taken it in, nor have I seen any other problems posted concerning this problem on the web. What happens is that when I'm shooting, usually sports photography in continuous mode, all of a sudden I can't press down the shutter so I look and see that there is the "FOR" error. At that point, the card has essentially rendered all photos that I've just shot until that point as non-viewable until I use Photo Rescue PC to recover the damaged files. In order to continue shooting, I will turn the camera power off, remove the CF card and reinsert until the "FOR" error message disappears and then I can continue shooting. The camera has never been stuck in the "FOR" mode, nor have I been faced with having to otherwise reformat the memory card. After I recover the files, I must reformat the disk through the camera in order to rid the card of the corrupt files. I bought the camera new in April of 2004. Any suggestions what might be causing this and why? I have not updated the firmware. Should I? Anyone else having/had this problem?
timberwulf
I'm no repairman. :) But, I would say if you're having write problems with the card interface, you may potentially be having read problems as well. If you have a read problem mid-firmware update....you may have a useless piece of plastic until you get it serviced. I'd send it in for service and see what the cost might be myself. Someone else may have better advice though.
dpurfectlight
You should updated the firmware first, reformat the CF and if your CF is in great condition and still have repeated problem, it's time to send it in to Nikon service. I send my D70 in once for sensor cleaning and seems to work even better now.
john schroeder
If you are having memory card problems DON'T try to update your firmware. You might kill your camera. Send it into Nikon with a detailed description of the problem. It could be something simple like dirty contacts or it could be more serious. Let the experts look at it. richard_liu2
Sandisk's CF cards are not so good. I never had such problem until I got a 1GB Sandisk CF card lately. Exact same as yours under same continuous shooting mode. "FOR" "ERR" or corrupted files only happen when I use Sandisk's card. My old cheapo PQI never gave a problem. Toss the Sandisk and get some other brand. Nothing to do with firmware.
