Nikon 18-200 dx vr lens zoom ring question.

I just purchased a nikon 18-200mm dx vr lens.. it seems to shoot great so far,

but i noticed the zoom ring is not smooth throughout its range. It gets a

little harder to turn around 100mm and then gets easier again around 150mm.

is this normal? My kit 18-55 lens is much smoother and easier to turn.

Your's is an observation shared by many, though perhaps not at the same focal lengths. Normal? I guess these days we have to accept "sample variation" as normal from Nikon.

Mine is similar. Doesn't stop it from taking very nice pictures.

Mine got a lot better in this regard after working with it for a month, and then it seemed to

be steady and smooth.

 

But... I am guessing mine was better than yours. I never found it to be even slightly a

problem.

Thanks everyone. I feel better knowing this is "normal", even though it is surprising that a Nikon lens would have this issue. I'm pretty excited about the lens. I know its not as good as using prime lenses, but it seems like a great all around lens to meet my needs from sports shots, to landscape scenery. Tonight i captured some great portrait shots and some very nice sunset shots.
