monkey
I set this shot up on a tripod and asked someone else to press the shutter release - is it still a self-portrait?
[P.S. That's me on the right]

jake_tauber
This one is a self portrait if you have multiple personalities.

andrew1
I think authorship can be claimed by the person who put the creative effort and decision into a photograph. Merely pushing a button doesn't mean much, especially in a case like this. You set up the shot- meaning you established the compostion, and presumably set the aperture and shutter speed for the exposure and depth of field- you made the decisions. Did the person who pushed the button decide when to shoot, or did you tell them when? If the subjects were all moving and doing things (i.e. drinking their beverages and smoking, etc.) and the person at the camera chose by themself what instant to capture the action, then they would be considered to be collaboratively involved with the creative decision making, but otherwise, I think it's fair to call it your photograph.
Anyway, it's a fun shot. Thanks for sharing it.

al_kaplan1
I always like to see somebody in the photo blowing out a puff of smoke! Yup, it's a "self portrait with friends" just as much as if you'd used the timer.

michael s.
Monkey - Forum fashion rules dictate that shirt should be tucked in when sporting a boutonniere ... or at least tucked in on one side. Ollie, I recognize that one and I like it.

subpopstar
Dang Monkey, it's like a whole rock festival on one bench. You could be one of the band members for the Rev. Horton Heat. The kid you're sitting next to used to be in Silverchair I'm sure. Next to him is Kid Rock. And the last guy must be some Brit pop bloke from Travis or some such band. al_kaplan1
I really ought to get busy and print and post some more recent ones. This page is over a year ago and I've been shooting probably a roll or more a week since then, different hair styles, beard, no beard, but they're all self portraits. http://www.geocities.com/alkaplanfotographie/15mm/
