sl attanapola
Is this lens any good when compared to the more expensive 14-54mm one?I am just asking since I am saving up to get an E-300 and I was wondering how good the kit lens really is? basscheffers
I haven't used it, but the samples in the review above indicate to me it is a lot better than the Canon 18-55 kit lens I used to own together with a 300D. The 14-54/2.8-3.5 that is the E-1 "kit" lens is second to none and excelent value.
GerrySiegel
Save just a little more SL to buy the faster lens. An extra stop or so can save your okole in many shooting situations. If money is really tight, the slower lens will do fine for starters. Modern lens design is just marvelous, bang for buck-wise. (More peanut butter sandwiches, and brown rice for the sake of 'art.' OCULUS New York
I agree with Gerry: This will be your basic lens, you won't regret spending a bit more for the best available. I love mine, but have not tried the 45 version. Also, the 45 is not splash proof, and I gather it feels quite different from the first class 54 version. bradley_smith
I haven't used the 14-54mm but some folks on the DPReview forums (do a search) say the 14-45mm is sometimes sharper than the 14-54: Slower and not as well built though. personally I'm sticking with the kit lens and saving my money for the 14-35mm f/2.0 when it comes out.
