mike_quigley
I corrently have a TC14EII that works great but I am looking to get a 2x converter on a budget. I understand that Kenko and Tamron make a converter that works with my VR lenses but I am unable to find clear documentation or model numbers as to which one works. Kenko makes 3 or so different 2x converters so I am a bit confused. Could someone help me out with the exact model or perhaps a link to bhphoto (Even better) to the converter? I have searched around and just found generic type model numbers saying that the Kenko or Tameron works. I want to make sure that I get the correct model. Thank you,Mike
mike_quigley
Oh yeah... black color is prefered. It looks like the Tamron only comes in white... is that correct? Thanks again, Mike
michael_lopez
Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 2x -- best type, not quite as good as camera manufacturer's brand (slightly more vignetting) but very close. Kenko Teleplus MC7 2x -- cheaper, but still good-quality 7-element design. Kenko 4-element 2x design -- avoid. Kenko converters are also sold under Tokina brand name (exactly the same thing: in fact, my 2x converter is branded "Kenko Tokina"). Make SURE that converter is compatible with your particular VR lenses. The front element of a high-quality teleconverter protrudes forward, the rear element of a not sufficiently telephoto prime lens or of a zoom lens not sufficiently set towards its telephoto end protrudes backwards. If the front lens element of the teleconverter hits the rear element of the main lens when you join them, you can damage (even wreck) both lenses! For further information on prices, check BHphoto.com. For further info on converter-lens compatibility, check Kenko's website (THK.com, if I remember correctly -- you can find it in BH Photo's Links section). Mike D
Nikon sells a 1.7x converter. Not quite 2x but very high optical quality. AFS actually works with 200-400 F4 VR but Nikon will only recommend it for manual use.
yakim_peled1
>> I am looking to get a 2x converter on a budget. This is not a good idea. As a start, 2X TCs degrade the picture quality considerably. Now you want to add to this degradation a cheap TC? I'd save to get the best one. Happy shooting, Yakim.
