john_rust1
Hi folks..specific question for comments: I have just got a Canon SD500 and the audio quality of the movies is very poor compared to the results I was getting using a Canon S230. I purchased the SD500 for its ability to do 30 frame per second movies at 640x480 size but the audio quality is very muffled and has a slight audio buzz/hiss added to the audio. I have got used to using my Canon S230 which records audio VERY WELL in comparison but can only record at 640x480 at 15 frames per second and only for a limited time (30 seconds or so) compared to the SD500 which you can record movies with until the card fills up. Any thoughts on this, do I have something set wrong?
eric friedemann
John, I tell my customers that they will almost certainly be disappointed with videos from digital still cameras and with still images from digital video cameras. The SD500 is a cool still camera, but I certainly wouldn't buy it to shoot video clips.
john_rust1
I've been very pleased with the results I get with my Canon S230 except for the fact that it records in 15 frames per second and that you can't do long clips....the audio quality for what I use it for on the S230 is remarkable in my opinion... The SD500 shoots in 30 frames per second so the video quality is improved but the sound quality is very muddy and has a audible hiss that the S230 didn't have. andrew robertson
Bear in mind that it's a digital still camera with a video feature tacked on for the spec sheet. No digicam is going to be the equal of a real video camera.
john_rust1
yes I know that but the Canon S230 is a digital camera the size of a deck of cards...not much larger than the SD500 and it's audio quality is SO MUCH better than the SD500. jsbc
Actually I find the Canon's video quite good when watched on a computer screen. It certainly is 1/4 the size of most camcorders.
