frank_marshall1
Is there an affordable 19'' lcd display suitable for PS work? I would use a CRT but: A) the glare hurts my eyesB) 19" CRTs are generally as big as a church
William Kahn
And C) CRTs use a lot more power. What do you consider affordable? I use a Proview 19" that I bought at Circuit City for about $360US a year ago. It's very reliable, and the calibration is right on the mark. When I'm rich and famous, I'll go for one of the high end, megabuck LCDs.......
Ed_Ingold
A CRT is too bright? Sorry to pop your bubble, but LCDs are about 50% brighter. Just about any LCD, 19 inches or bigger, with 8-bit imaging, adjustable RGB settings and a 130 degree viewing angle will work, IF YOU HAVE A MONITOR CALIBRATION SYSTEM. In my experience (which is considerable) you can't eyeball the calibration of an LCD like you could with a CRT. Once calibrated, an LCD works great - you'll never go back. I use a Viewsonic VP191 (for professional graphics, if you believe their ads). I'm very pleased. It was unusable out of the box, but responded well to calibration with a Gretag-MacBeth Eye-One Photo kit.
frank_marshall1
How does one go about calibrating your said screen? After viewing shots edited on my lcd on a crt, the contrast seems to be way off.

kevin brammer
Edward, Thanks for the info on the kit. I use the same monitor as you and have been looking at these products. Kevin
