smittyatthebeach
Is anyone using a Tokina 80-200 2.8 on their 10d. If so do you like it? I'm debating on the Tokina, the Sigma 70-200 2.8 and the Canon 70-200 f4.
pmac
Hi Bryan I have that combo - it's fine. Lens glass is pretty good, it's built like a tank. I have a couple of Sigmas too, but the build quality is nowhaere as good as the Tokina. Be aware - it's a very heavy item!
StuartMoxham
I've been using one on my EOS1 for years but bewarned it is heavy.
smittyatthebeach
Does the lense produce a quality photo. Weight isn'a huge concern of mine.
smittyatthebeach
Do you twist to zoom or slide to zoom? Thanks Again.
pmac
Hi again It's a twist zoom, optical quality is very good, just short of excellent.
StuartMoxham
Optical quality is just fine I can't say that I have found any faults with it but I don't shoot velvia or any other slow fine slide films that might show any faults. The auto focus is much faster on the sigma HSM lenses the Tokina is a bit slow. I bought the lens for the limited DOF you get when shooting wide open so I am generaly pleased with it, but I often wonder if a 135 2.8 soft focus would be easier to handle. I won't change now as I do very little payed photography if I was doing photography as a second job and making money at it then I probably would get the 135 2.8 to use. yakim_peled1
IMHO fast AF is very important so I'd - personally - debate between the Sigma and Canon. A lot have been written on that topic. I suggest a search. HTH. Happy shooting, Yakim.
ron c sunshine coast, qld,a
There are (finally) starting to be some excellent comparisons of the pro 70-200 lenses online-
http://www.slo-foto.net/reviews-56.html
Sadly there is allmost nothing on the tokina
markus_franke
Hi, the only serious drawback I see is the relatively slow autofocus and the - IMHO - impractical af clutch mechanism for switching to mf and back.
You can find some pictures on my page, especially these ones:
Tiger
Bat I
Bat II
Contact me if you need crops from the fullsize images
Have fun, maf
StuartMoxham
I have to say I like the clutch system as the lens feels nice and solid and well damped in MF mode.
