gerald_dichtl
Dear Nikon users, Recently there was already a thread about buying used camera gear in Hong Kong. I'd like to know if anybody has experience in buying new Nikon gear in Hong Kong. Recommended shops, any pitfalls, etc. Thanx in advance. frank uhlig
First you have to travel to Hong Kong. And if you want to use mail order, there are these nasty fees of FedEx, VAT, customs etc. And you also need to be sure you have a warrantee worth the name. But you can always compare prices there with B+H or NYcamera, right on your browser. How about just travelling and using/buying your gear at home first? Why Hong Kong specifically? What about the Bahamas, Panama? Which country would you import the stuff to? Sorry, i seem to have more questions than you may want to answer, right? ShunCheung
Gerald, this topic has been discussed a number of times. Check out this thread I posted late last year. It should contain all the info you need: <P> <A HREF="http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00AUnD"> http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00AUnD</A> <P> I would stick with an authorized dealer and the ones that are frequently recommended. gerald_dichtl
Dear Nikon-Friends, Thanks for the quick answers. Now I have all the relevant information I need. Since I probably will travel to Hong Kong in December for professional reasons (with other words, no travel and hotel costs), I thought it might be a good idea to make use of this trip in order to buy a new lens. Once more, thanx a lot. Gerald
ShunCheung
Gerald, good luck with your trip. Most likely you'll spend some time in the Central District there and there are plenty of good stores in that area. I hate to say this, but some stores in Hong Kong try to take advantage of tourists, as they do in a lot of large citites. I would stick with reputable dealers. This link provided in the other thread by Sandeep contains a lot of the latest prices there. For Europeans, there should be plenty of bargains:http://www.ygdragon.net/index.php?page=photo/cameraprice.htm
antonio_c_italia_
Dear users, this is not an answer, I' ve the same problem. I'm going to buy Nikon equipment, but I'd like saving some money even if it means buy from USA or Japan. Consider that I live in Italy and I want to buy by web. My questions are: -Have you never bought from Japan? -Do you know some serious on-line shop selling from Japan?Somebody as B&H for Usa. I saw the list of japanese shops linked at this page, but I didn't find anything simple or interesting. Thanks for the certain answer Antonio
