click agent
I read the Medium Format Digest regularly and notice that people refer to *Bay as _the auction site_ and other names, but never by its real name (if you know what I mean). Why? Thanks!
gary_woodard
We use code words here, to protect the innocent.
lacy_dillard
I'm also curious about this ...
bill_thorlin
In the "theatre darling" world they never say Macbeth, maybe it is the same syndrome ? I call it fleabay as it reminds me of an internet flea market.
classcamera
I noticed this some time ago, and I beleave it stems from the fact that most people here have been burned by a less than honest seller.
heller_harris
Didn't they screen or block any message that contained the word "Ebay," at one point?

It's a bit like the Harry Potter series, where the evil Lord Valdemort is referred to as "He Who Must Not Be Named." On PN, Ebay is "The Auction Site That Must Not Be Named."

Heller
HollywoodScriptAnalysis.com
skygzr
Yeah, I think photo.net used to hack up a hairball if you said eBay. I don't think that's the case anymore. eBay! Ha, there, I said it! eBay, eBay, eBay, eBay!
shambrick007
I think it's still blocked in the classifieds so people can't pimp their ebay auctions.
bobatkins
There was a block on Ebay, but it was mostly to prevent people posting links to their Ebay auctions. That doesn't seem to happen much anymore and when it does a moderator usually takes care of it. We didn't want photo.net to become a dumping ground for Ebay ads from people registering here simply to pimp their auctions.
bill_thorlin
Seems reasonable to me - thanks for the insight.
dmanthree
I think we should pretend that E-Bay doesn't exist. This technique has always worked in the past, hasn't it?
joseph_albert
I already to pretty much ignore ebay except for the occasional look for a small hard-to-find item. 60% of my camera purchases from there have bene unsatisfactory (3 out of 5 cameras purchases there were not as represented in some material way and there is no return recourse generally).
