scotshot
I have been out learning to use my new 300D and it looks like a lot ofshots are being overexposed so I have set the screen alumination tothe second mark so they look ok on the viewer and then i can checkexposure on the computer at home, but that only works if your screenis set correctly. So my question is this should i use a hand heldmeter to calculate exposure and then set the 300d viewer and thencomputer screen. Also what have others been doing about this. Regards,Jim. lotsawa
Brightness of the camera's screen very much depends on the ambient light you are in, so its not a reliable means to check exposure. Learn to use the histogram instead. For your computer monitor, calibrate it, at least with a decent software solution like Adobe Gamma that's part of Photoshop (in the Windows version, its called something else on a Mac). phil vaughan - yorkshire u
Screen brightness is no judge of exposure, you really should set your display with the info button, so that you can see the histogram with your preview. Theres a great tutorial here

Your monitor needs setting as a standard, not to your camera, do a search on this site for instructions. Your cameras meter is very good, but none of them are perfect, learn how it works and when it will be fooled.

paul -
Be sure to read "Expose (to the) Right", which is also linked to in the "Understanding Histograms" article linked to above. Excellent info.
