ubiquitous
Using a Leica CL, several frames per roll exhibit this dark band at the top (for landscape orientation). It does not seem to be associated with particular shutter speeds. What could be the problem?
john_shriver
Probably one of the curtains bouncing at the end of it's travel. Clean, Lube, and Adjust time.
sammer
Probably time for a CLA, but with a horizontally travelling shutter, wouldn't the band be on one of the sides if it were the result of bounce?
al_kaplan1
The CL shutter runs in the other direction compared to about every other camera with cloth or foil curtains. Top to bottom, not side to side.
huw_finney
Looks like under exposure to me. Brake too fierce, CLA time.
sammer
Didn't know that... thanks, Al.
jim_simmons
CL shutter is vertical, like Al said, which is one reason why it syncs at 1/100 and not 1/60. That is definitely shutter bounce. The reason it's not on every frame is that it gets better/worse/nonexistent depending the shutter speed for the shot. Can be adjusted easily by most good camera techs. ubiquitous
Thanks. I had it overhauled and CLA'd by Sherry Krauter in April. This started happening as early as June, but I haven't got around to checking into it until now--of course, she's not responsible for that. Anyone know how long she guarantees her work? stephen_w.
Why don't you call her? She likes to chat, maybe too much.
