jeff_drew4
Lucky Film is still in business. http://www.luckyfilm.com.cn/eng/products_2_1.html Also note in recent business news: "Kodak Snaps up Lucky Stake Eastman Kodak announced Thursday that it has signed a US$100 million 20-year co-operative agreement with China Lucky Film Corp, China's only enterprise in the imaging industry. Analysts say the move will further secure the US imaging giant's presence in China -- the world's second largest film market, and put pressure on Fuji -- Kodak's global rival. It signals that Kodak is finally out in front in its competition with Fuji to win Lucky co-operation. Fuji had also talked with Lucky over possible cooperation in past years, earlier reports even claiming they were very close to a deal. " . . . . . . collect888
By now I believe all three Chinese b&w film manufacturers are making b&w films in batches. Freestyle's message is clear: "Lucky is not manufacturing black and white film at this time." The thing they did not tell you is, Lucky may make a new batch at another time. To make sure about this, I have just talked to a Lucky sales rep. My impression is, Lucky's b&w films are still in production and their 35mm b&w films are ready to fulfill orders. As I know Lucky's 120 film is in short supply right now and haven't been produced for a long while. Sheet films need to be special ordered to produce a batch. It is clear currently there is not enough order quantity to satisfy one production batch. Guess people have to wait for a while and hope this won't lead to a total stop of the production. As I know, currently all film manufacturers are in big trouble in this digital conversion and Chinese market has no exception.
collect888
By the way, Kodak has no interest in Chinese made b&w materials or b&w market. They gave money to Lucky is mainly for color products, or in future anything else Lucky will produce, and compete with Fuji. It is a long term investment. It probably help Lucky's cash flow and keep its b&w production lines running.
johndc
Anyone else have a sneaky feeling that we'll be seeing an announcement of this sort in the near future: "Kodak moves all film production to China".

rowland_mowrey
The last I heard, just a few days ago, is that all Kodak branded color film is produced in the US, and all Kodak branded B&W is produced in the US. Any Lucky branded film is made in China, but does not use the same formulas as current Kodak films. Kodak B&W film and low demand color films are produced in batches as needed to fill the orders outstanding. Otherwise products in big demand run 24/7/365. alan_rockwood
Rowland, Concerning where Kodak branded film is manufactured, I bought a roll of Kodak C41 color print film in Idaho a year ago. It said "Made in China" on the box. I was very surprized since I thought all Kodak film was US made. Alan
