FE2 and FM2n lens mouth

Hi,

This is a kind of stupid question, but nevertheless:

Since now almost all (?) people wants digital, the prices of these

cameras seem me to be lower right now.

I am interested in buying one of them, but I have some lenses

autofocus that it would like to be able to use. I know that this is

not possible with the G lenses , and what about other autofocus

lenses (like D series)?

Thaks in advance,

Nuno Campos

Ah, such is the beauty of Nikon. It's just such a compatable system.

Anyways, as long as your lens is AI (it must have a meter coupling ridge on the aperature ring-all AF lenses excluding G-lenses have this feature), it will function properly. Non-AI lenses (lenses with a solid prong and no meter coupling ridge) may or may not work with stopped down metering. It depends upon wheather or not the meter coupling lever that connects to the ridge can be flipped up out of the way or not. If not, then if you mount any old Non-AI lens, you risk damaging the camera.

Nevertheless, you are still left with a huge choice of lenses. So to recap, the lenses that will work with your camera are...

AI Nikkors

AIS Nikkors

AF Nikkors

and

Non-G AF-D Nikkors

There are also a large number of 3rd party lenses available.

Often, the old AI lense can be had for peanuts used. They're still great optically, too.

Have fun!

Yes, they fit and meter fine. Just test the manual focus

characteristics before buying an AF lens specifically for these

cameras (and other manual focus Nikon camera bodies made since

1977). All AF-D type lenses fit and meter correctly with these

cameras. Some have a fast throw on the focus ring that may make

then difficult to focus. Some work quite nicely.
I use the AF 35~70/2.8D ED-IF and AF 80~200/2.8D ED with tripod

collar with my FE2 and FM2n.. The latter balances better and

"feels right" with an MD-12 motor on these bodies. My

AF 60/2.8(non-D) Micro has such a fast throw on the focus that

focus in the range from infinity to 1m its almost

impossible to focus. The throw is about 10 to 12 degrees. The AF

60/2.8(D) would work fine in the from close-up to 1:1 quite

nicely but I have other 55/3.5 and 2.8(s) that I prefer on those

cameras.
