joe_margetts2
Can I use the lens from my D70 which is a AF-S 18-70 3.5-4.5 lens with my F4? I appreciate that I won't have control of the aperture so will have to use shutter priority or program modes but other than that, will it work? I was kinda hoping the AF-S focus system might improve the focus speed of the F4 as well as giving me a nice wide angle zoom. Joe
errol young
That will not work because the lens will not cover a 35mm frame. on my film cameras there is significant vinietting. I have the other problem using my old Nikkors on the D70. They might damage it. I love my 35mm 2.0 O series lens. Errol
thracian
According to Nikon Team, the use of DX lenses on film cameras is not recommended, because the coverage of DX lenses is les than 35mm. I realized that when I used mine on my Nikon F-100. Resat
cabophoto
Errol, >>I have the other problem using my old Nikkors on the D70. They might damage it. how could they damage it ? I have used AIS Nikkors on my D70 with no problem except that the meter doesn?t work with them. Carsten http://www.cabophoto.com/
jeffrey moore
This is a "G" lens, meaning no aperture ring. Might be a problem with that F4.
jeffrey moore
Whoops, didn't read that you acknowledged the aperture ring issue. Sorry. According to Nikon guru, Thom Hogan (wwww.bythom.com) this lens has a vignetting issue at wide-open apertures even on the smaller digital sensors, so I suspect it would be practically useless on your F4. cabophoto
Chris, I have several old non-AI lenses as well as an 18-70 DX. They?re freely interchangeable on my FM2, F3HP, F100 and D70 without damaging anything. Of course the 18-70 is pretty much useless on bodies that can?t control the aperture. The fact that is doesn?t cover the entire 35mm format at any focal length is obvious in the finder. Carsten
