trace_dibble6
At long last, I've acquired, one at a time, all the major components of a functional RZ67, and I'm tip-toeing through the operation of it. Given my 35mm & Pentax 67 SLR orientation, I'm finding everything to be a bit awkward--and a little intimidating (did anyone else find this to be true the first time out?) Anyway, I've stumbled over a possible problem while attempting mirror lock-up operation. When I screwed the cable release into the socket on the lens barrel, it popped up with alacrity and exposed a red ring. Normal, all well and good. But after removing the cable release, it stayed up. And, of course, I can't release the shutter without screwing the cable back in. Is something wrong?
david_holland1
Pasted from the RZ Manual: "It the red line around the Mirror Lock-up Socket is still visible when the cable release is removed, the camera is still set for mirror lockup operation. If such is the case, reattach the cable release, making sure that the socket retracts as you remove it once again." (The "it" for "if" typo is Mamiya's). Clearly the problem you have is common enough that Mamiya addressed it in the manual. You can find it discussed in some past threads here. Mine does it half the time too. If you don't have the manual, you really should go to the Mamiya site and download it. If you can't, repost or email me and I'll send it to you. john_bellenis
This is really common - happens with all my RZ lenses at some point or other. It's probably a bit of a design flaw, but is so easily rectified it isn't a big deal. Just screw the release back in and as you unscrew it again, carefully make sure the little guy goes back down into his recess.... I've made it go down with the tip of ballpoint and even with a fingernail in the past... it's a minor irritant and never a factor when you are aware of it as you remove a cable release.
