Western MD and Northern WV

I'm planning a 3 day drive through western MD and northern WV this weekend. I

plan to stop at Harpers Ferry, WV, Cumberland, MD, and Morgantown, WV. I'm

going to stick to mostly back roads rather then interstates. I'm hoping that

someone can suggest some good stops along the way. I'm looking for

photogenic/historic buildings (churches, old railroad stations, mills,

barns/farms, etc), good fall foliage areas (I know its about a week early for

peak colors), and any other random suggested stops. I have a good mapping

program and GPS, so I'm not really worried about getting lost.

Also are there any B&Bs/hotels anyone can suggest. I've been to Harpers Ferry

before, but not much further West from my home base in Columbia, MD.

Thanks in advance.

Justin

Take a look at a gallery I have here: http://www.dcstockimages.com

Enter Galleries and click Scenic Maryland. Several hundred images mostly of the Garrett Co/Deep Creek Lake/Cumberland area.

If you see any scenes that appeal to you I'll tell you where thay are. I'm going up there for a few days next week, would go this week if I could. You couldn't pick a better time to go. Take your time and enjoy!
00IOA7-32899484.jpg.d99e99cf98d42a81bf404430bdcd8182.jpg

I wish I was in your shoes!

Don't miss Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, MD. There are some great shots to be found there, and admission is either free or almost neligible. Check out the Dunkard Church, Bloody Lane, the Burnside Bridge, and the National Cemetery. You should be able to get some very classic and moving pictures there. Outside of the park, Sharpsburg itself is a quaint little town.

It's also possible to drive almost directly from Antietam to Harper's Ferry using the back roads - approximately an hour's drive. I couldn't tell you the exact routes, but I did it from Harper's Ferry to Antietam a few years back just by eyeballing a map & crossing my fingers!

Have a wonderful time!
