nikonichiban
Quick question: Do I need a "wide-angle" UV filter for this lens or can I just go with the regular filter? What makes a filter "wide-angle?"
nikonichiban
I seem to have gathered that wide-angle filters are thinner, but is this necessary?
frank uhlig
Do you have the manual for your lens? Can you find Canon's web site? Please look up what B+H or Adorama suggest as accessory for this lens. Simple to do and simply done, if you really care to use what others have put into your lap. And if in doubt, pay for the slim filter, by all means. The lens deserves not to darken the images at the corners. But then again, maybe it does not need this care, 77mm is quite wide for a filter at f/4, 17mm. So, I would start by doing my own homework, please try, too. michael_gordon1
Take what they say with a grain of salt. I ordered the 17-40 L from one of them, received a phone call asking me whether I wanted a UV filter. When I said I had a regular one, I was emphatically told that I needed a slim one. Luckily, I had read Puppy Face's article (referenced by Steve Dunn) and was able to say: "thanks but no thanks".
