juanriera
I need to crop a scanned photo to an exact pixel size, length and large. I can not change image size because I want to mount both images on PS and I need to be exactly the same. I don't know if is there a way of cropping an image on PS say to 800 px wide. Any help appreciated.
michael_darnton1
When you have the cropping tool selected, on the tool properties bar set the drop-down box to "fixed size", and set the pixel numbers you eventually want as the width and height. When you crop the proportions will be right, and the picture resized to the image size you need.
juanriera
I must say I have been using Canvas size option to reduce canvas to an exact size but I don't find enough control about the final part of image that is going to be cropped. juanriera
Michael, I have tried your option but it changes the image scale/size because you must select a part of the image and then PS adjusts the image size. I don't want to change the image size, only cropping but keeping the same scale on image. I am not sure of being clear enough...
j.luis aranda
I'd say Michael means the marquee tool, not the crop tool.
Select the rectangular marwuee tool, set it to Fixed Size, set the size desired, and place the marquee where needed. Have the image zoomed to 100% fir finer placement control. Then use the Crop comand in the Image menu.
Regards,
joseluis
juanriera
OK, it works. I must set the zoom scale at <actual pixels> and then cropping works ok.
Fast answer.

zapped
This cropping technique doesn't require you to do anything with zoom (image magnification). I suspect you're still doing it with some other, less direct method. Let me try to be clear. 1) Choose rectangular marquee tool. In the toolbar, choose "Fixed Size" and enter the width and height as, for example, 400px and 400px. 2) Click once in the image to place it. Drag around to move it where you like. 3) Choose Image-->Crop from the main menus. You're done.
