patrick_p
Does anyone know a reliable place I can get some custom profiles made? I was going to use Dry Creek (http://www.drycreekphoto.com/) but can't get a reply from them on email which isn't a good sign. I've also heard some people talk about Cathy's (http://www.cathysprofiles.com) and Chromix (http://www.chromix.com/). Can anyone recommend one? Also it there much of a difference between using a GretagMacbeth SpectroScan or GretagMacbeth i1 Pro to make the profile? Thanks,Patrick
andrew_rodney1
-->Also it there much of a difference between using a GretagMacbeth SpectroScan or GretagMacbeth i1 Pro to make the profile? Not huge. The Spectroscan is a good unit with high tolerance but most users only sample one patch per target (it can sample up to 5 but that makes the process a really long one). The Eye-One will sample something like 100 per second so you're getting more averaging of the data. I use the iCColor unit which has very high spec's and samples multiple samples per patch (at least 8 per patch). In the end, either Spectrophotometer will do a very good job assuming they are properly handled and the parameters in the software are set ideally. For some papers (canvas) you really want multiple samples. Andrew Rodney http://digitaldog.net/
mallen
Patrick - I've used Dry Creek and Cathy and have been satisfied with both. I ordered two profiles from Dry Creek last week and received them in one week. I am pleased with the results. I, too, emailed Dry Creek and didn't get an immediate response and became concerned (they don't list a telephone number on their website). However, the profiles arrived by email in due course and shortly after that I also received an email from Ethan Hansen following up on my earlier email to him. So, in the end everything worked out fine.
andrew_certain
Are you sure that your email from Dry Creek isn't getting caught in a spam filter or something? I only ask because:
1) I've missed email that got filtered, and
2) I emailed Dry Creek a random question a few months ago and they responded pretty quickly (and at 1:00am if I remember correctly).
Andrew
beauh44
Hi Patrick, In this month's issue of Photo Techniques magazine there's a pretty glowing recommendation for Cathy's Profiles. Good luck!
john_murphy1
Since you mentioned Gretag Macbeth: As of yesterday, they have dramatically reduced their prices. The new packaging of the entire EyeOne package (formerly called the EyeOne Publish) is around $1200 from Chromix.
patrick_p
Andrew Certain - I have no idea if it is getting caught in the junk mail filter. I sent 3 mails one from my work address one from hotmail address and I also sent one direct to Ehan. I guess I could send another asking if it is going to the junk mail filter.. :-) Thanks for the help everyone think I'll try Cathy's.
