tyler_thomason
I will be traveling to Chicago at the first of the year. This is my first time going there. Any good photography spots that I should check out. Thanks, Tyler
louie_powell1
Winter in Chicago can be brutally cold and windy, so be prepared with a warm coat, hat and gloves. And having made suitable preparations, one of the most distinctive characteristics of Chicago is the architecture. Walk along the corniche along the Chicago river - there are some fabulous buildings that make great subjects. Also walk over to Michigan Ave and get to the Auditorium Theater and the Symphony buildings - and don't forget the Picasso sculpture in front of the municiple building. Be sure to photograph the el and the caverns in the financial district. There are some beautiful churches in Chicago. Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago, the Bahia Temple in Winnetka, etc. Something that is kind of unique is the Jade Window at the North Shore Baptist Church - similar to a stained glass window, but made instead by JL Kraft (the cheese guy) as the centerpiece of a small chapel from thin sheets of jade. jenmartin
Also be sure to visit Millennium Park - the Cloud Gate sculpture (the giant jelly bean) features some great reflections of the Chicago skyline. Check out the video wall fountains and reflecting pool too.
ken_kuzenski
The Art Institute of Chicago (I think that's the name) has some wonderful opportunities! There's a lot of good art, and the building complex itself is photogenic--and when I was there a year ago, the staff was quite nice about photography. If the weather is clear, the top of the Sears Tower is well worth a visit. There's an aquarium on the lake--easy to burn film trying to catch the dolphins jump in their shows! Jim_Tardio
One of my favorite cities. For sure go up in the Sears Tower. Also, have yourself a drink in the bar on top of the Hancock Building...at dusk if possible. <p> Make sure to have some Garrett's popcorn. <p> Here are some photos: <a href="http://www.jimtardio.com/chicago/chicago.html">Chicago Photos</a>. <p> Bring warm clothes. frankl
I travelled to Chicago in August 2003 and was wow'ed by the architecture to say the least. It's an amazing town if thats what you're into. Others have given you good suggestions, but I have one to add - take one of the architecture tours put on by the architecture society there. It was the most informative afternoon i've spent in ages, and there was still time to take photos along the route, while learning the history of why Chicago became such a mecca of architecture. <p> The society has a website at http://www.architecture.org/ <P> You can wet your appetite with a few of my photos at http://www.abstrakt.org/loop/ <P> Have a good trip! donsorsa
Check out <a href="http://chicagoreader.com/"> The Chicago Reader </a> to see what's going on in town. Also check the archives since questions are asked about Chicago pretty regularly.
eric merrill
I was in Chicago recently, but unfortunately I didn't have much time for personal photos. I did spend almost an hour walking around the Millenium Park area: <a href="http://canid.com/chicago/thumbs.html">http://canid.com/chicago/thumbs.html</a>. I definitely wish I had had more time to explore.
rahul_deshpande1
It has already snowed in Chicago and it is probably very cold now, but there will always be good photo opportunities. I visited the city on the Labor Day weekend and here are the results, mostly of <a href="http://community.webshots.com/scripts/editPhotos.fcgi?action=viewall&albumID=200287206">Millennium Park.</a><br><br> Enjoi,<br> Rahul
aaron_good
What Louie said about the Baha'i temple is true. It is a beautiful spot, right near the lake, in a town called Wilmette, about 5 miles north of Chicago. Here's a link: http://www.us.bahai.org/how/default.htm It would be interesting to see some pictures in the dead of winter there, with nothing blooming. aaron_good
One more thing: if you go to Northwestern University in Evanston, you can go out on to a peninsula that juts into the Lake and affords some distant but interesting views of all of the North Side of Chicago.
