steakandale
I can't beleive this. I lent out my OM1n (my first real SLR) to my dad for long-tem loan astro-photography use. I think I need to buy him a $69 bargain OM1 and get mine back! This forum is making me want to use it again. Show me your OM1 and OM2 photos especially if you recovered. steakandale
Thanks Graham, I meant photos OF the cameras themselves! I think OM's have a classic look, like a camera should look like. I searched through old posts, many speak of re-covering in new leather and even different colors, but no photos :( The Leica-nuts had one long thread called "camera porn" in the Vanity category, nothing but cameras in it. chris_allen6
I don't have a pic of mine handy, but I have an OM1-MD that has been CLA'd by Camtech and recovered in Black Lizardskin leather from cameraleather.com. BTW, lots of pics there of OMs and other cameras with their leathers. Chris

steakandale
Chris - how do you like the feel and grip of the Lizard? John - Sheesh, did you WAX that camera?

richard_oleson
I thought blue denim would be appropriate for a mid-70s camera (there's even an orange "Levi's" pocket tag on the back) :)=
neild
I agree: the cameras both look and feel great! (but watchit: we don't want to become poor men's Leicaphile-types do we?)...
patrick j dempsey
Neal thats an Oxymoron.... Leicaphiles are annoying because like any equiptment snob they taut their over-priced snap-shot cameras over technically superior and practical cameras. The OM is so well loved because it not only takes great pics, but its easy to use, fun to handle, amazingly versitile, and nice and cheap! I call that common sense... not snobbery. ;)
johnny massey
easy Patrick, I'm a bit ac/dc on that particular score. PS someone on 'that' forum recently described the OM as the Leica that should have been, instead of the R range - quite true IMO.
chris_allen6
Quote: Chris - how do you like the feel and grip of the Lizard? It feels good to me. Grip is a bit better than the factory leatherette IMO. I've had it on the camera for 5 years now and it's holding up quite well. Chris
akochanowski
I think there's more than a few of us who use both the Leica M and the OM system, actually. Different horses for different courses, for me anyways. For me, the M is good with a 35 and a 50mm. Anything else and it gets annoying. The OM is my 24, 28 and 40, and 85mm kit. The Leica is definitely easier to focus in low light than the OM; its lenses are a bit better wide open, but nothing that makes or breaks my photos. If someone told me I could use only one system, I'd dump the Leica.

neild
Perhaps you are right Patrick: I have never been able to afford to buy Leica but I don't mourn that fact. Anyway, as a result of this I won't make comments on the Leicas themselves, but only on the type of attitude that we sometimes see from some of them over there. I think the OM-1 and OM-2 were the pinnacle of ergonomics in the OM-System. Even though the OM-4T(i) and OM-3Ti are better cameras in many ways, I like the feel & handling, and also the look, of the original models much better. andrew_wells1
The thing on top of Richard's Olympus looks like a flash connector, so that you can use a flash away from the camera. Andrew
steakandale
That Denim is funky. Here's the replacement OM1n body for atsro-duty. It had a busted meter so I got a good deal. My OM1n is coming back home to papa soon!... The shop also had a "japan" 50mm 1.8 that was mint, I think I must have it too... yep this is contagious

richard_s.
Richard, what is that on top of the Olympus?

Hello Chris, it´s an TTL Auto Connecter (Olympus spelling), it allows the use of Olympus own TTL flash cable. On the OM-1n, it´s suppling sync and flash-ready signals; on the OM-2n additionally the TTL flash control.
Rich B NYC
A little late to the show but.. Here's the OM-1MD that I "stole" last summer from a guy who was going digital. It's been re-covered with a Cameraleather kit and sports a 50mm f1.4 Zuiko silvernose with generic hood from B&H. My first and only Oly and I wish that I had discovered these gems about 25 years ago.
