Seattle Quickie

I'm making a quick two day trip to Seattle end of November. Are there

any photographic attractions I shouldn't miss? I'll be staying in the

city centre and don't plan to stray much from there. I do know of

Pike's market. Any other suggestions for subject matter, and also

reputable camera stores would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Hanna,

What types of subjects to you like? If you want the traditional skyline shot of Seattle head to Kerry Park. Be there at sunset. If you're lucky and its a clear day you'll see Mt. Rainer in the background and the cityscape in the foreground. Contact me if you would like directions.

Hanna,

I'll second David's recommendation

But also I'd also like to add a couple of other locations. There are a number of other nice views of downtown across the bay from West Seattle (views from Admiral Way and off Harbor Ave) and Magnolia (I like the view from the marina). Another place is Gasworks Park

which is a great place to photograph in the summer when the sailboats are out racing around Lake Union with downtown in the background.

For reputable camera stores, its tough to beat Glazer's Camera (http://www.glazerscamera.com/). If you want to get stuff developed, check out ProLab (http://www.digitalimaging.com/) in Fremont or Ivey Imaging (http://www.ivey.com/, next to Glazer's). Optech is another good camera store, not far from Glazer's camera.

Enjoy!

Hi Hanna,

Seattle gets the same amount of rain per year as Chicago--don't worry about that! My advice would be to buy a postcard of the skyline. It's been seriously overdone. Instead, cruise the streets and photograph the people; they're way more interesting than scenics of the Space Needle and Mt. Rainier. For a good opportunity, check out the Pike market in the morning, or Broadway at night. If you really do want to shoot scenics, try some night shots. There's always traffic and action, so grab your tripod and do some 30-second exposures for some cool effects.

"Photographic attractions" means, to me, something that interests me, not necessarily other photographers. Is there any aspect of the city that particularly attracts you? If not--if you only want the standard set-ups--the advice from the other posters is good.
