hanna_cowpe
I'm making a quick two day trip to Seattle end of November. Are there any photographic attractions I shouldn't miss? I'll be staying in the city centre and don't plan to stray much from there. I do know of Pike's market. Any other suggestions for subject matter, and also reputable camera stores would be appreciated. Thanks.
david_a._wong
Hey Hanna, What types of subjects to you like? If you want the traditional skyline shot of Seattle head to Kerry Park. Be there at sunset. If you're lucky and its a clear day you'll see Mt. Rainer in the background and the cityscape in the foreground. Contact me if you would like directions. David. kostak
Hanna, I'll second David's recommendation http://mappoint.msn.com/(3z4tri45rzwpks55vrlaeq55)/map.aspx?L=USA&C=47.62916%2c-122.35990&A=7.16667&P=|80D9B426|&TI=Kerry+Park+(park)%2c+Washington%2c+United+States But also I'd also like to add a couple of other locations. There are a number of other nice views of downtown across the bay from West Seattle (views from Admiral Way and off Harbor Ave) and Magnolia (I like the view from the marina). Another place is Gasworks Park http://mappoint.msn.com/(3z4tri45rzwpks55vrlaeq55)/map.aspx?L=USA&C=47.64575%2c-122.33541&A=7.16667&P=|999581|&TI=Gas+Works+Park+(park)%2c+Washington%2c+United+States which is a great place to photograph in the summer when the sailboats are out racing around Lake Union with downtown in the background. For reputable camera stores, its tough to beat Glazer's Camera (http://www.glazerscamera.com/). If you want to get stuff developed, check out ProLab (http://www.digitalimaging.com/) in Fremont or Ivey Imaging (http://www.ivey.com/, next to Glazer's). Optech is another good camera store, not far from Glazer's camera. Enjoy! Kosta
kostak
Sorry for the glob. I thought that by selecting html, you'd be able to click on the links for locations/store urls.
hanna_cowpe
Thanks guys. So you get sun in Seattle do you?! As I'm going next week I'm not holding my breath for that, but it would be a nice bonus. I've already got Glazer's on my list. Will check out your links. joey
Hi Hanna,Seattle gets the same amount of rain per year as Chicago--don't worry about that! My advice would be to buy a postcard of the skyline. It's been seriously overdone. Instead, cruise the streets and photograph the people; they're way more interesting than scenics of the Space Needle and Mt. Rainier. For a good opportunity, check out the Pike market in the morning, or Broadway at night. If you really do want to shoot scenics, try some night shots. There's always traffic and action, so grab your tripod and do some 30-second exposures for some cool effects. "Photographic attractions" means, to me, something that interests me, not necessarily other photographers. Is there any aspect of the city that particularly attracts you? If not--if you only want the standard set-ups--the advice from the other posters is good.
takaaki
The underground city was rather nice...
Jerry_
Does Seattle get rain: yes. Also, mist. Also, damp weather. But once every couple of years, Indian summer actually can produce 10 to 12 days of no rain - mist --- just blue skies. Take rain gear (just in case.) charles_stobbs3
Take a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island and back. (See the city from the water). People are people but there is only one Mt. Rainier.
kostak
Joey, That might be true about the amount of rain. Houston get a whole lot more rain than Seattle, but which city has sunnier weather? There is one feature in a car that is a MUST in Seattle: intermittent windshield wipers!!!! :)
hanna_cowpe
Thanks all for your suggestions. I'll adapt an umbrella to my tripod and cover as many of the sights as possible.
