Quantum T2D and Canon's E-TTL2 on DSLR

Has anyone used a Quantum T2D on a Canon 20D or 1D mark II with E-TTL2? I'm curious,

since Quantum claims that the flash works with E-TTL2. I have a Sunpak 120J and love the

quality of light from the bare bulb. If the E-TTL2 works well with the Quantum I think I'd

look at that flash as a good option to the 580EX. Any thoughts?

E-TTL 2 (as opposed to E-TTL) is a function of the camera body. In theory, any E-TTL capable flash should work as an E-TTL 2 flash when mounted on an E-TTL 2 capable body. I know that, in reality, this isn't universally true with third party flash units, but it doesn't surprise me that E-TTL 2 works with the the QFlash T2D.

But, while the 580EX is sort of an expensive flash for a shoe mount unit, it's still only about 1/2 to 1/3 the price of a QFlash T2D with battery and appropriate TTL module. It might be a good option as a flash if you need its capability, but the price difference doesn't seem to make it very comparable.

Maybe others posters can tell you how well it works on a DSLR.
