tristanlaing
I've recently purchased a nikon F90x (an upgrade on my F70) and I plan on aquiring a new view screen. I've found available a grid screen. What I really want is a manuel focus screen, with a split prism in the middle, preferably with grid lines too. Would it be possible to adapt a screen from an FE or some other manuel focus nikon to fit my F90? (Or my F70) If not, are there any auto focus nikon's that can be fitted with a split prism screen? Perhaps the F4 or F3AF? Thankyou.
jim_gifford
The split screen would be right where the central focus point wants to work... but with the F90x you have a nice ground glass (even with the E grid screen) plus the rangefinder assist lights at the bottom of the viewfinder. You can use the lights instead of a split screen. Be well,
Michael R Freeman
Tristan,
As you have discovered, the F90X does not have a split-image rangefinder focusing screen (it has nothing to do with interference of the AF system). You can get one though - it depends on how bad you want it.
Beattie makes a grid screen with either a horizontal or diagonal split image to fit the N90s(F90X), and it is available from B&H by special order for $80:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=69995&is=REG
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=80474&is=REG
All of the single digit F series cameras have split screens available. The F/F2/F3 had an "R" screen available, which is a split screen with grid lines.
Mike
NetR
Hi Tristan I'm with Jim. Almost the first thing I did with my F90x was put in an E screen. The ground glass does work well, and the < o > lights are excelelnt for fine tuning focus. Regards, Ross
tristanlaing
Thanks very much Mike. I need a split screen to turn my F90x into a real manuel focus camera because the focus assist lights (which are of dubious accuracy anyway, although, focusing on a split screen is not neccesarilly accurate either, it must be callibrated) on my F90x do not work with manuel focus lenses attacted. So, even in the middle of the day I am really in teh dark focussing manuel lenses. I think I will buy this screen, because my alternative really is to pick up a manuel focus nikon body. Thanks very much.
