erb_duchenne
What's the feasibility of using two 550EX for 100mm or 180mm macro, one on either side of the lens, with one on off-shoe cord as master, and the other as slave?
blueworldstudios
For macro, wireless ETTL works fine.
mark u
I think the chief difficulty is that it would be an unwieldy setup. The other thing to beware of is if you are using an E-TTL II body, you may get overexposure if you don't set the flash heads to some level of tilt or swivel. E-TTL II assumes the flash is at the same distance as the film/sensor plane when used with the off shoe cord in a straight ahead configuration. You might also need to use diffusers with the 550s to reduce their effective power at short range and give you more control over exposure.
nelson cotrim
I use a 550 and a 420, also on the sides, for macro work, both with bouncers. Of course, I need someone to help me with the second flash as I don't have a bracket.
jean deaux
Nelson, Macro flash brackets are cheap...at least in comparison to your speedlites: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=325232&is=REG
