roger_michel
hi -- this weekend is the semi-annual photographica show at the waltham high school. tons of great leica. KEH and KOH and many others will be there. sherri krauter and sam shoshan also usually attend with lots of cameras and free leica advice. you can also have your shutters, etc. tested. a really good show, especially for those who have gotten burned on ebay or who just enjoy the social aspect of a face to face sale. all day saturday and sunday. brambor
I might show up. My son has a hockey game in Stoneham at 7PM so perhaps I can get there sometimes around 4pm. I went to this show in 2002. Lots of stuff.
john15
These shows used to be a good way to buy high quality cameras and lenses before Ebay became the dominant market force. Is there a schedule for upcoming photo shows available anywhere?
roger_michel
shutterbug has a schedule. this particular show is one of the best. the prices are often better than ebay, you can trade, and you can learn a lot. also great books and photos for sale. put on by PHSNE, photo historical society of new england. i think this is the 60th show. michael s.
John - A schedule of some camera shows -- many of which seem to be in the Midwest, with a couple in Philadelphia and the DC area -- can be found here.

I've attended some of these. phong
It really is a quality show. While I do not always find what I look for, I almost always find something interesting to buy at a good price. There is always a lot of Leica gear that you can check out in person. And it does not hurt to bargain a bit. (low ball at your own risk though :-) ). Some photos from a couple of years ago: Photographica 2002 Now that the annual Hunt's show is just a fading shadow of its former self, this is the best camera show in the area for me. And it is infinitely more pleasant than ebay. Cheers, - Phong
ben z
I travel around a lot and I used to hit every camera show I could, not that I bought all that much but it was that kid in candy store feeling. Especially I would go to all the shows in Florida when I was there for the winter, the best being the North Miami show where there was always a lot of Leica stuff and people like Jim Kuehl and Sherry Krauter were among the dealers with tables. But over the last maybe five years, probably because of ebay, the shows have gotten smaller and almost nothing they were selling was above the 8+ level, and the prices didn't seem to fall into line with the overall market. This past year was the first time in 2 years that I'd gone to the N. Miami show and only to meet with photonet forumers including Al Kaplan. The show itself was even more disappointing to me, though one forumer managed to buy a nice SL with 50 Cron from a guy outside the show for a very good price as I recall. Things have changed radically in the amateur photography scene. Used to be there was always a mom and pop camera store even in the small towns, and several in the larger ones, where shutterbugs and pros alike gathered to swap technique tidbits (and argue the merits of one camera or lens over another). Now that, like buying and selling, seems to have switched over to the internet. Frankly I think it's better. Better equipment changes hands at better prices and there are more people to interact with including from all corners of the globe.

al_kaplan1
Ben, we need to start planning the Second Annual South Florida Leica Get Together, whether or not we include the North Miami Armory show. Are there any new forum folks living in the area since last year?
