straightarm
or do I need to buy a Sigma convertor? Has any one got practical experience of these combinations? TIA Simon
phil vaughan - yorkshire u
First the bad news - No. The Canon extenders have a slightly different mount to allow them to fit only Canon lenses designed to be used with extenders. The good news is that any 3rd party extender will work, some will give OK image quality, some lots better. The Sigma one is your best bet, as like Canon, they actually only recommend certain lenses for absolute compatibility.
bevan_donovan
I read somewhere just recently that the instructions that come with the Sigma extender state reccomend it only be used with Sigma lenses. I could be wrong but I think the element of the Canon extender protrudes far more than the Sigma, which may can damage to lens. I haven't used either so I am only guessing. Hope that helps Cheers Bevan
bobatkins
<em>"The Canon extenders have a slightly different mount to allow them to fit only Canon lenses designed to be used with extenders"</em> <p> Totally bogus as far as I know. <p> The only restriction is that the Canon TCs have a protruding front element. If that doesn't hit something in the lens, you can mount them on any EF compatible lens.
johan_larsson
The answer is YES. I have used my Sigma 120-300/f2.8 with Canon extenders EF1.4X and EF1.4XII as well as EF2XII. Superb results. Johan.
