richard_ilomaki
Hello: I'll be in Scottsdale on business for three days in Oct. and will have the weekend for some LF shooting with a 4x5. Any suggestions for venues within an hour's drive? Thanks
audidudi
What sort of subject matter do you wish to photograph? I live in the area and can direct you to all manner of places depending upon what you want to shoot...
mike_hoogendyk
Contact Rod Klukas at 602-244-1133. Teaches large format at Scottsdale Community College and is the LF Guru at Colormark during the day. He'll not only know the places, but local people who might like to take you and also what other LF "events" are in process at the time.
ryan_mcintosh
I live down in Tucson, there is quite a few things down here depending on your style and what type of subject matter you shoot. I would like to come up for the LF ground meetings that Rod has, can anyone tell me about them, where they are, what they consist of, when are they and free? Thanks Ryan McIntosh www.RyanMcIntosh.net
J.W. Wall
Another Tucsonan who would like to know about the meetings.... I used to live in the Phoenix area. There are so many possibilities that you will probably want to narrow down your subject matter substantially. If you're shooting scenics, you may want to have alternate plans, since the folks in the Phoenix area love their smog. I think there's a camera club in Phoenix that has a web site which may give you some hints.
gary_frost1
I would go out east of town to Apache Junction and take the Apache Trail. There is a taste of the Arizona desert and if you have enough time (to make a full day of it) continue on to Roosevelt lake and then to Globe. Return to Phoenix via US 60, making a big loop. There are some nice areas along this route as well. Here's a link with some info, but don't be discouraged by the (snapshot) photos: http://www.americansouthwest.net/arizona/apache_trail/index.html
wayne_crider4
I totally concur with Gary's rec's. On the way, try out the free old western town tourist place that you'll see on the way up or back. I had quite an enjoyable time there taking pictures and the people who worked there were real nice to talk to. There's also an old mining town up Wickenburg (I can't remember the name tho), that was a perfect picture taking place. If you need the name later I'll look it up. A day there and back was easy and you can stop in the town at the Mexican restaurant for some good eat's.

rcoda
I'm moving out to Scottsdale next June, partly because it will afford me more time and visual stimulation to begin photographing again after a 10 year hiatus. NJ just bores me to death. Thanks to all for the info. Richwww.rcodaphotography.com
