dagata
Got a good deal on one of these, original black. I'm a little confused about the difference between program mode and A mode. It seems in both modes, you set the aperture manually and the camera sets the shutter speed, based on what you set as the lowest. Can anyone tell me the differences? work-page
In A mode, you set the aperture, and the camera sets the shutter speed. It will not change your aperture. In P mode, you set the aperture, and the camera looks whether it can set a shutter speed in the range 1/250 to 1/30. If it can't it will change the aperture so that the shutter speed falls in this range. You can change the lowest used shutter speed in P-mode (called the camera shake critical speed) by pressing the Select button. Lower speeds available are 1/60 to 1/4. Also in P-Mode, flash photography is handled differently. You set the HX-14 flash to full mode, and the Hexar now exposes ambient for the aperture you set, and at the end of the exposure adjusts the aperture and strobes the flash. In A-Mode, you set the flash to A-mode matching the aperture. Or you can set it according the the guide number rule (Aperture = GN/distance). stuart_richardson
Someone actually wrote up a big pdf file on all the controls of the hexar. I cannot remember where I found it, but if you email me, I will send you a copy of it. My email is: professor.pnin at gmail dot com
stuart_richardson
Just to update, it is Frank Van de Wiel's guide, and his website was here:
 Frank Van de Wiel's site
But it does not seem to be working anymore. As I said before, I can email people the guide if their are interested.

paul t
You might want to check out the cameraquest site, Dino, here
It gives reminders of how you switch stealth mode on, plus a couple of other modes that are hard to find. Although this is a great camera, and generally easy to use, some of those controls aren't exactly intuitive. Look at dantestella.com for more about the flash (although actually trial and error is a good way to work out how each mode works). If you get confused, email me, as I know that somewhere I have the Konica card that details all the short-cuts.
dagata
Thank you all, very much. This is extremely helpful. That camera's kind of tricky.
