in2tiv
I recently broke my hot shoe on my Vivitar 285 flash. I had found a replacement metal shoe on eBay, unfortunatly the new shoe has only 2 connectors the center pin and foot connection, where as the original foot has 4 wires Red, Black, Green and White. I wrote the supplier and he told me the Red was the center and Black the foot. I had done this and now the flash only functions in full manual mode and the auto thyristor function does not work any longer. Do any other users have any info on the proper way to fix this? I know I cheaped out by not ordering a vivitar replacement but I don't think it would have been $3.95. Thanks any input appreciated Darren
in2tiv
I have discovered that the red and black wires are indeed the only wires required for the hot shoe to function. The problem with the thyristor was infact dirty contacts inside of the vari power module after disassembling and cleaning them it was working like new. ...I hope I did not waste anyones time and this post helps others Thanks
shaun_kelly1
Hi Darren. Did the eBay replacement foot have the external sync connector and test button too? Here's my story: While we're talkin' Vivitar 285HV flashes ...... I finally got around to installing the replacement metal foot (w/ external sync connection and test button) I had bought on eBay about 2 years ago! I opened up the 285 and found 4 wires (red, black, green, white), but the replacement foot only has 2 contacts! So, since no installation instructions w/ the foot, I searched all over the web and found 3 different postings in various web sites saying to connect the RED wire to the center contact and the BLACK wire to the other contact (negative) of the replacement foot and to tape up/not use the GREEN and WHITE wires. Did that and the test button fires the flash, but the external sync connection seems dead. Has anyone on this forum done a similar replacement and have everything work?
