male models

It's a self fulfilling thing, the market for male models is small, so men take it up.

Also there's a problem with the male physique, either men get flabby or they go to the gym and get muscley. It's much easier to find a female model who is neutral (although women who take care of themselves tend towards skinny).

Body hair. Men have more of it and don't remove it. I don't like it.

Then there are the bits which stick out. In men, the Penis; however much you like it, it's plain ugly. In Woman, breasts - much nicer to look at.

I've photographed plenty of female nudes, if someone can put me in touch with a male model who doesn't want to be a porn star, has a neutral physique and minimal body hair, working in West London or the Thames Valley I'd be grateful. I've said this before and got nothing though.

Richard,

On the shelves of my local book mega-retailer, there are nearly as many books dedicated to the male nude as the female nude. I think this near parity between male and female texts is a recent phenomenon. There is a fine line between a nude and erotica, and male nudes are often stigmatized by the homoerotic label. In a world that is largely homophobic, I am surprised to find as many books on the subject as there are.

"Why do we never or very rarely see nude male photography."

Because women have curves, and guys have hair. When studying the human figure, the female form is just plain more attractive to look at aesthetically speaking. Even my wife agrees! (im not so sure thats a good thing) So it's no surprise you find volumes more female nudes then male nudes.

Because as a practical matter, a vast majority of photography is done by heterosexual

males. Most of said hetero males are terrified of being accused of being gay if they

photograph male nudes. Hence, they would rather drink battery acid than photograph a

nude male. To be fair, most of us photograph subjects that interest us or that we find

esthetically pleasing, and develop skills in that regard. Most hetero male photographers

find the female form more pleasing, and therefor do a better job photographing them.

They might be capable of shooting a competent male nude, but if there is no interest then

it shows in the resulting lackluster photos.

The same holds for viewing male nudes. In our culture, it seems perfectly acceptable for

women to appreciate nude paintings or photos of women. But if a man appreciates a photo

or painting of a nude male, he will be assumed to be gay. Back to drinking battery acid.

Yes, it is totally a double standard, but that is reality in the US.

Battery acid is not bad when you get used to it.

Or, maybe it's just fear of the temperature of the studio..... ;-)

Man. Ya know, so I'm doing these nudes and a model says it's cold, I crank up the heat. I

unfortunately am wearing clothes. This is problematic - I get extremely hot and thirsty

doing nude photography.

My inclination is to say: Because straight guys are afraid of being anywhere near another nude man. (P.S. That sentence seems to imply that the photographer is also nude, but you know what I mean. That's a hard sentence to phrase properly!)

On the other hand, it can be dangerous to make assumptions. So maybe there are lots of straight guys who photograph male nudes. I've never done a survey of how many hetero-/homosexual wo/men take male nudes, so it might be interesting to really research it or at least do a little informal listing here.<div>009V6P-19645084.jpg.bb7acadfe31447034937f91f06b2aa44.jpg</div>

Having shot some male nude photography I have to say it's much more difficult to find a good male body - or maybe I'm just more tolerant of the female body. Whatever the case I find I'm rarely moved to photograph a male body, and in any event I find that many males are rather 'coy' about their bodies and reluctant to be subjects.

Just as misogyny and institutionalized sexism prevents women from obtaining positions of leadership, a similar bigotry and traditional culture exists that prevents men from being seen as an aesthetic good. If it shows our status or skills, a photo is OK, it it shows us as beautiful or vulnerable, everybody gets uncomfortable (with exceptions).

Because most non pros guys with a camera are married and use female models as their way to gawk and photocheat.

There are plenty of male models and male photographers who appreciate the beauty if the male body. You're just in a

different circle. If you peek in any photography site, you,d think "model" meant female, it doesnt. No gender is uglier than

the other. If you think so, shows the midnset.
