brent_bennett
I produce Supergloss prints up to 30 x 45 inches. I have not found an adhesive mounting system or product that does not produce orange peel with Fuji Supergloss. For smaller prints, hinge mounting with tape comes out much better than any method tried, including spray adhesives on "ultra-smooth" mounting boards. I have also tried Pres-On Self Stick plastic mounting material; same problem. Bainbridge has a new product called "Artcare Restore Foamboard", and also "SpeedMount" (which is much smoother). The company claims they will not produce orange peel with Ilfochromes or Supergloss, but I have not tried them (I don't have a dry mount press). Questions: Has anyone tried these materials, and if so, how successful were you in avoiding orange peel? How about mounting to aluminum or plastic (acrylic); same question, and if good, what adhesive did you use? And finally, does anyone mount on acrylic plastic that has "static electricity" (so-called static method), and does that hold for an extended time, if mounted in a frame with mats? Thank you for your responses.
www.graemehird.com
Come ON! Someone answer this question please! Brent, how about asking on QTL's forum, APUG or f32.net? I want the answer, since I'm getting the same effect on my Kodak Endura Metallic prints when framed.
maarten_frenken
Dear glossy-paper mounters,
I am an artist from the Netherlands and i mount glossy paper on aluminium panel. I used seven different types of double sided pressure sensitive mounting films and always ended up with orange peel. Now i am stuck with my work and trying to find a solution.
I am adviced by profesional mounters to use the expensive clear mounting films for mounting on acrylic. These films should show no orange peel effect with high gloss graphic material.
Ask for samples and try it out.
Maarten Frenken, Sept 26, 2011
