errol young
Some one tell me if I am right or wrong. Shooting with this set up in A White Ballance (WB)the camera does not compensate all that much for the flash. I tried using the flash wb and it seems a lot warmer and probaly better. I have a wedding end of the month. That mean, in Canada, indoors with lost of flash so it would be nice to know if others agree. Thanks
Jerry_
Here is my guess: you would have to 'test' the camera, lens, and flash under the same lighting conditions as expected for the wedding. The Nikon speedlight is designed for 'fill-flash' out in sunshine: to get it to act like a 'flash bulb' takes some adjustment, generally adding more light to your image. If, for example, the wedding location has 'green' tube lighting -- your white balance would be a lot different than for a low-light sitution (a candle light ceremony.) (Your eyes can correct color on the spot: your camera takes some adjustment.) It sounds like you are unsure of what to expect: are you sure you want to use digital for the wedding? grant_.
when shooting flash the nikons all seem to prefer the flash white balance setting....try it with the various + and - settings as well...you might want to try gelling the flash too to balance out the indoor lights to get the most even light possible... dougs
shoot in raw, then adjust the WB in Nikon view...
errol young
Thanks for the responses. My short test seems to show that if I use the flash in TTL not TTL BL, the WB needs to be set to flash because the A setting does not compensate. terry_rory
Even with the built in flash my experimenting has yielded far more pleasant reults with WB set to flash, indoors, than with AWB (which makes people look a little pallid and surroundings look a bit grim.) paul_sokal___dallas__tx
I just shot my first wedding--yes, I'm a rank amateur--using sb-600 on slow sync with WB set to flash. In slow sync mode, the incandescents in the church warmed the images too much, all correctable in PS of course. In retrospect, I'd either shoot in raw or do a custom white balance which the D-70 makes a snap to do. Now the candids I did in the ready rooms were perfect using fluorescent WB and no flash. bill_harris1
I find using the auto wb is best for most shooting...if need be it is very easy to compensate + or -.. It works great for me under any lightimg situation..
